Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network

FACES OF RESCUE
January to June 2011

Meet the lucky Cairn Terriers brought into the Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network in 2011. This is our sixth year to have a comprehensive listing of all terriers accepted by our rescue group. Our ability to rescue this tremendous amount of Cairns is ONLY due to the hard but rewarding work of our many Volunteers as well as your financial support of our Cairn Rescue Mall, Corporate Affiliate Programs, Grandparent and Guardian Angel Programs as well as the many Direct Donations with which you have been so generous. Thank you from all of us.

IMPORTANT - The dogs on this page are not necessarily available for adoption. If you have applied to adopt a cairn from CPCRN, ONLY the dogs listed on the AVAILABLE CAIRNS page are currently available for adoption.

This foster dog pictorial is to show ALL dogs that passed through CPCRN this year. It DOES NOT show Cairns available for adoption on any particular date. While all of our foster dogs for the current year will be listed here, many may not be available for adoption immediately OR AT ALL. Some will be in the process of being adopted, many will be already adopted, and others may be in our "FOSTER TO ADOPT" program. CPCRN evaluates the temperament and health of our dogs prior to any adoption availability and brings them current on their medical needs. Sadly some dogs we take in will NEVER be adopted because of health or temperament issues. PLEASE check the Available Cairns page to check on AVAILABLE dogs. Also, since this is a yearly listing, many on this list may have already been adopted.

Check out the individual links of icons that may appear in a dog's listing.

  • happy endingsAdopted Cairns with a Happy Endings Story will have that linked.
  • Rainbow Bridge Any dog who Crosses the Bridge prior to being adopted will have a link to their special area in Buf's Memorial Garden .
  • Special Needs Red Cross CPCRN also accepts Special Needs dogs for rehabilitation.
  • Other icons are used to show groups rescued together

Glimmer & Glow
Glimmer and Glow

Many rescue Cairns exist from day to day but deep down inside they carry that Cairn "glimmer" of hope. A "glimmer" that there is a better life, someone to love them, freedom, & happiness. For the lucky ones, that "glimmer" starts turning into a "glow" when they join the CP family. They "glow" as the care & love begin & that "glow" continues on their journey to their happily ever after.

The Cold Hard Facts
Cold Hard Facts

Out of the blowing snow and bone chilling temperatures emerged the Cold Hard Facts. Three little Cairns that have endured nature's and man's worst. Their fate was up in the air on Saturday, with one of them facing certain death ... and then their lives changed forever when they became the Col's kids. They are all named from our Name a Cairn Program.

The Parents' Gift
Parents' Gift

How many of you credit one or both of your parents for your love of animals and the desire to volunteer to help rescue groups like Col. Potter? Many of our lifelong habits, hobbies and interests are borne from what we experience from our early home life. Many a parent has influenced their child to become an animal lover. What special people we had in our lives with huge hearts and caring spirits to give us this gift. Welcome the Parents' Gift, named from our Name a Cairn Program.

Working Class

Many of the Cairns Col. Potter takes in have been forced to participate in breeding. Some have been lucky enough to also been cared for and even loved by their owners even though they were among the "Working Class". Today four such Cairns found their way out of that situation when their owners became too elderly to continue their breeding operation and made the decision to surrender them to Col. Potter. They are Working Class no more!

When a puppy doesn't sell or find it's pet home by a certain age, it's future is precarious to say the least, especially with the current economy.

For three babies, their future was sealed with happiness when they came Marching Into CP yesterday! They are siblings born 8/29/10, so are just six months old.

They also got a little extra guardian angel to watch over them from being named from our Name a Cairn Program.

April Fools
April Fools

April 1, April Fools Day, All Fools Day - a day with many names and varying stories of where and how it began. A day to play practical jokes and tricks. A day filled with harmless fun and laughs. April 1, 2011, however, was no trick for four Cairns who made their way to freedom and into the loving arms of Col. Potter. It's no joke that they will be spending their first night sleeping inside ever, getting their first bath and have something soft to sleep on. No fooling that they are now on the road to a happily ever after.

Lettuce Out!
April Fools

Think about what it takes to make a truly great salad. In many ways Cairns are just like a big yummy salad... lots of different colors, textures and variety of dressings. Cairns are definitely not just plain old iceberg lettuce, but they have a little curl like Endive, color like Arugula, tenderness like Mesclun, variety like Chard, different dressing like Spinach, flavor like Romaine and spice like Cress. Toss them all together and you have a delightful salad ... or a Cairn!

Who's on First?
Slapstick

Who doesn't remember the legendary skit "Who's on First" with Abbott & Costello? Now Col. Potter has its' very own Abbott & Costello! These two young small dogs were found meandering in the neighborhood on an adventure. A kind lady scooped them up but after several weeks of being unable to find their owners, she contacted Col. Potter. They were described as silly little boys always looking for mischief! What one doesn't do, the other one will.

Most Tropical Flowers are a little tougher, a little stronger and their blooms last a little longer than many flowers plus they tend to appear in vivid, stunning colors. Three little girls made their way to Col. Potter that most definitely fit the description of Tropical Flowers. It certainly took strength and toughness for them to survive to this point to now get the chance to blossom and bloom into the beautiful Tropical Flowers they were named for.

IMPORTANT - If you have applied to adopt a cairn from CPCRN, ONLY the dogs listed on the AVAILABLE CAIRNS page are currently available for adoption. You can view all Cairns currently available for adoption here: Available Cairns

PLEASE check the website for the current status and availability. Again, the Available Cairns page is the place to check on AVAILABLE dogs.
