Winter Warmers

Peggy Welcome to Col. Potter's “Winter Warmers” - a fundraiser in honor of Mo's Mom.

Mo's Mom – Hmmm, who is this person?  She must be real, she makes really wonderful quilted blankets for the fur butts; but she remains a mystery.  In fact she is a very real person and she loves her Cairn babies.  She has been involved with CP for a long time, just behind the scenes.  She did make a personal appearance at the Rome NY CRAP in 2008 but other than that, she is almost invisible to the rest of the group.

Her real name is Peggy John and now at the age of 92, she is too frail to continue making these quilts for what she calls "her babies".  Each and every quilt comes with her love attached and she smiles when she sees the pictures of the kids wrapped in the blankets.  If we counted, there have to be at least 500 of these in circulation.  Her final quilt featured in this fundraiser is quite special and is sure to make everyone smile.  Peggy was also a recipe contributor for our Volume II cookbook – one of THE BEST chocolate cake recipes there is!!! She is sad that she cannot continue but is hopeful that this last fundraiser will benefit future babies as it has helped the babies in the past.

This is a chance to win the last quilted blanket made by Peggy John of CT.  This celebration of her final quilt is to help let her know how impartant she is to us, and will always be.

Included in this fundraiser are some blankets by our LOL - the Little Old Ladies of Northeastern PA - who have crocheted many Afghans for us over the years as well.  Our “ladies” have dwindled and these are all that is left of their wonderful work.

Several other quilts, blankets, and warming things are included as prizes as well, just to help us all keep our winter warm.

The operation of this fundraiser is similar to our New Leash Fundraiser in that you can pick multiple prizes and we will pick winners until they are all awarded.  It does not have similar odds.  For any particular quilt or blanket you have a one in the total number of squares sold chance of winning that particular quilt or blanket.

Any time spent in a loving foster home is 10,000 times better than any time spent before they were rescued, but some little ones get overlooked because they don’t exactly fit in, are not as well rounded as the younger or prettier dogs, and people are afraid to try to fit that square peg into a round hole – but that is so not the case most times. Dogs that have been longer in foster care than others, are, well, just in foster care longer. We profiled three of our long-term fosters here, but look how many we have that are still in need of, and SO deserving of, that elusive FOREVER HOME!

The following dogs have all been in care over 100 days - Won't you consider one of them for your family:

Gianna in FL, Blaiser in TX, Thurber in SC, Pumper in VA, Hazel in VT, Twitch in OH, Atchison in KS, Jensen in NJ, Montanna in NJ, Bucky in ID, Echo in MN, Roxanne in IN, Imp in VA, Brooks in FL, Vonnee in TX, Jethro in TX, Defi in Tx, Schatzi in SC, Lotus in AZ, Orchid in WA, Carmichael in FL, Binky in BC, Belker in NY, Dulcinea in VA, Honey Bun in MO, Matt in MO, Scully in TX, Celeste in WI, Jilly in NY, McNally in IN, Poem in MI, Megalyn in FL, Divident in TX, BoBo in MN, Kai in NY and Jaycee in TX.

Houston

Houston is a gorgeous nearly nine year old boy that HATES the camera – it is hard to show how truly handsome he is because he doesn’t put on his best for the camera, but truly – he is a short, dark and handsome boy.

Houston was a mill boy for way too long, but unlike many breeder dogs, he doesn’t seem to have any trust or fear of humans issues.  He is a lover and a snuggler and he only wants his own forever home.  He loves his foster family, but he wants and SO DESERVES his own forever.

He’s someone to take on walks and give a hardy belly rub too.  He loves playing with the other dogs.  He is quite the thief stealing blankets and such, and has quiet restful sleep all night long.  He lets you know he’s around by barking with excitement when it’s walk time.  He has perfect manners in the house and doesn’t do anything that warrants correction.  He is truly a dream boy and for some reason has not been selected by a family to spend the rest of his life with.

Help make this boy’s time in his foster home end – let’s find him a forever.  Help us get and care for other little ones that have done their time in mills, shelters and as strays.  Participate in this Winter Warmer fundraiser.

What a great companion Houston would make for any family lucky enough to notice him on our Available Cairns page.

1/20 update - HOUSTON HAS BEEN ADOPTED WHOO HOOO

Blackberry

HI!  I’m Blackberry and I don’t get it.  HANDSOME works for George Clooney and he’s single and everyone says that’s a good thing.  I really need to be single too.

I am only 4 years old, and I am a looker.  I am a great companion and a fun little dog – why doesn’t anyone want to adopt me?  Look into these eyes and tell me NO, you can’t have a forever home.  Sweet, sweet is the word they use to describe me.  I’ve recently gone camping and was SO GOOD – still I have no forever home.  I have a wide variety of belly bands until I get it figured out that I don’t need to mark, but hey – they make me even more adorable.  I love my crate and they say that once I am in my own home, without other dog competition, I probably won’t be needing my belly bands any more.  I will miss them though, they are so colorful and bright.

Think about this boy as a new family member – recommend him to folks that are looking to bring a wonderful friend into their lives.  Participate here so we can continue to care for our long and short term foster wards.

BroderickLet’s share a little with you about Broderick.  Broderick was a stray when he came to Col. Potter Cairn Rescue and although we thought we knew what was under all that hair, we had to commit to take him without knowing for sure.  Once cleaned up we discovered that he looked like more of a mix than a Cairn.  But he was safe with us and we were the best hope he had for a forever home.  We made a commitment and a commitment we always keep.

His dilemma started in his first foster home, full of Cairns: Cairns that were way to rowdy and bossy for this little guy.  You see, Broderick is very proper, does all his business outside and loves to snuggle with his human.  The other dogs just don't understand that he doesn't want to play and get dirty.  Broderick is most happy when he can snooze on his bed next to his foster mom.  He does guard his toys and bones from the other dogs so really need to be an “only child”. HE DESERVES to be the king of his domain.  He would surely adapt to life with another canine companion, as long as it was the right match.  It just takes patience.  Don’t you know of someone that would LOVE A SNUGGLER, a companion, and an awesome boy?  Look up Broderick on our Available Cairns page in South Carolina.

BroderickBlackberryIf you’re on the fence about becoming a foster home for a Cairn in need, this is something you will never regret. Check here to read about fostering for Col. Potter.

As an all volunteer organization, you can be sure none of your donations go to salaries. They do go to help pay the vet bills of Houston, Blackberry, and all the other foster dogs. If you would also like to volunteer, we always have many needs - admin work, transporters, foster families, and many communication jobs in our adoptive teams. THE RULES

Col Potter Cairn Rescue Network is an IRS registered 501(c)3 Charity.

These are the rules:

  • Our Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network's Winter Warmer Fundraiser will start on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 9:00 AM EST and close on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 9:00 PM EST.
  • For every $15 donation or like quantity thereof [i.e. a donation of $60.00 would entitle a donor to have their name placed in four squares] a pledge square or squares will be assigned to the donor, numbered in order of receipt. Unlike our New Leash Fundraiser, there is no set number of squares or odds. Pledged squares are assigned sequentially as donations are received. Specific number(s) cannot be requested by the donor. Your pledge square numbers will be e-mailed to you upon processing your donation submission and entry into our Winter Warmer Pledge database. Houston
  • Donations pledged must be received within 30 days after close of the fundraiser or your entry may be voided and any gifts you won may be forfeited.  Please promptly respond to any communications advising that your donation was not received. These communications are sent via email and are valid as of the moment of sending - if you mailed your donation or made it via paypal, please respond or we will not know to look for it.
  • When making your donation, you will be asked to list your top 10 choices in gifts. Once submitted, gift requests cannot be changed. CPCRN reserves the right to choose for you if all your gift choices were previously won. We hope you like it, there will be no changes once the award has been announced. There is no guarantee that the gift you win will be the most valuable.
  • Donations to this fundraiser are not tax deductible under IRS rules.  For example, contributions you cannot deduct include those you give to qualified organizations if, as a result, you receive or expect to receive a financial or economic benefit equal to the contribution.
  • Gift selection has been automated using the methods established with our Winter Warmer Fundraiser with the following rules:
    • If your pledge square is drawn, three passes will be made to determine which gift you will receive. All passes will go in order of the Winners Selection Listing. Gift searching stops for your square once a gift has been awarded.
    • Pass 1: You will be awarded the top gift still available from your wish list. If your top available gift is "Donate Gift Back to CPCRN" then your gift search stops, and this is considered your selection. If your top available gift is "Pick For Me" or if all of your wish list items that are associated with that pledge square were previously selected by prior winners, then gift selection will be attempted during "Pass 3".
    • Pass 2: All winners who did not have a gift selected in Pass 1 will have our database checked for alternate gift selections on different squares assigned to the same name. (If you use a nickname one time, and your full name the next, we will NOT associate them.) If any of these squares are associated with gifts that have not yet been awarded, the highest ranking available gift will be chosen for you. If gifts are available on more than one square at the same level, the choice between them is random. If all gifts on every square belonging to unique name are not available, then gift selection will occur during Pass 3.
    • Pass 3: All those that do not already have a gift selection will be randomly assigned a gift via a random number generator.
  • $15 donation for a pledge square is a suggested donation. You may receive a pledge square without donating. Send a request to ANLOL@CairnRescue.com and include all the information requested on the donation form along with your list of 10 choices in the email or we will use 'Pick for Me' as your choice.
  • This fundraiser is open to all individuals over 21 years of age, including CPCRN Board Members, Directors, Group leaders or managers alike with one exception. The person who will run the random selection program to pull 200 unique pledge square numbers will not be allowed to participate in this fundraiser, NOR will they have access or be privy to the database prior to the random number selection which will be time stamped by the program and dated.
  • Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network has assigned a non-CPCRN Board member and trusted individual who has been given a "RANDOM SELECTION PROGRAM", which will provide a time stamped and dated list of the programs randomly selected numbers based on the amount of squares with names [i.e. if we have 772 pledges, the Random Selection program will be programmed to select 21 lucky gift recipients and give us the list IN SELECTION ORDER from 1 to 21. This individual will have NO knowledge of our donations database or who has been assigned what number(s) or pledge squares, and WILL NOT pledge in this fundraiser.
  • This fundraiser will close and a match with the Random Selection program will be made when the closing date and time, as mentioned above has been met.
  • Once the fundraiser closes, the following will occur: The random selection program, when run, will show the results to the person but also automatically email the results to the following addresses:
    • Danielle Rackstraw, CPCRN President
    • ANLOL@CairnRescue.com
    • CairnRescueMall@cairnrescue.com
    • The individual who will run the Random Selection program
  • The results will be promptly posted on this page and sent to CRM.
  • Winners will be notified of their win on this page at the bottom within 24 hours of the close of the Winter Warmer.
  • Most items will be mailed out within two weeks after you have been notified of your win AND we have received your full donation. If your item needs to be personalized in any way (embroidered items, size specification, reservations, etc.) you have 30 days after notification of your win to provide any required information, unless otherwise noted in the gift description. If not, the item will be forfeited and donated back to CPCRN.
  • If CPCRN sends you a notice of non payment, please do not disregard it. Send us a reply about when payment was made. This is the single biggest reason that items are not shipped.
  • CPCRN'S NLOL will only ship to the USA and Canada.
  • Canadian Donors Please Read: CPCRN reserves the right to charge additional postage charges to Canadian winners due to the increased fees to ship to Canada. Recipient is responsible for any customs or duty charges. CPCRN cannot be responsible for non delivery to a Canadian address - items cannot be insured nor tracked internationally. Be aware. CPCRN does not verify that gift cards other than our own CP Gift Certificates are good for Canadian users. Before choosing any as a prize, please check with the company you are interested in.
  • CPCRN generally has incentives on its Cairn Rescue Mentoring Yahoo Group during the running of our fundraisers. Only entries from those on the group on incentive day will be eligible to win the incentive - winner choice will be done using the same random number generator as on the final prize selection. A single donation cannot be eligible for both a referral incentive and a CRM incentive. Memorial referrals do not count toward the referral incentive so those making those memorials will continue to be eligible for any CRM incentives. All other rules apply to all incentive prizes.
