The Volunteer State!

Col. Potter volunteers in the Great State of Tennessee have put together a basket overflowing with local goodies and the music that put Tennessee on the world stage! Entire prize NOT shown here.
Time to travel through Tennessee to see what you get!

Tennessee is known for more than just great music and great food. As anyone who has driven through this state can tell you, some of the most beautiful country you'll ever see can be found right here, be it fields of cotton, rolling hills, or majestic mountains. The book "Christy", about a country school teacher, was written with a setting in the breathtaking Smoky Mountains. To help bring some of the beauty of the state directly into your home you will find a 2006 calendar sharing a year's worth of Tennessee splendor.

More surprises will await as you try to spot which other items in your basket represent legal Tennessee symbols, such as the state flower, state insect and state fish!

In a region obsessed with pork barbecue, Memphis lays claim to the title of being the pork-barbecue capital of the world. Rendezvous and Corky's slug it out year after year as perhaps the two most famous barbeque restaurants in Memphis. Interstate Bar-B-Que has been receiving national acclaim and is a local favorite, and the Bar-B-Q Shop (Dancing Pigs sauce) has a story all its own. The Bar-B-Q Shop came along a couple years ago and unseated all of Memphis’s finest and was voted #1 for barbeque by the Memphis Commercial Appeal. With sauces and rubs from all four famous Memphis barbecue restaurants, it’s your chance to decide which is best!

Here are some goodies from the original Old Country Store founded in Jackson, Tennessee more than 40 years ago! There’s a jar of Green Jalapeno Pepper Jelly, an Old Country Store travel mug, and a few scenery cards from Casey Jones Village Center.

And just to make it interesting, we've included a package of Tripp Country Ham biscuit slices and seasoning pieces, which is hog raised and cured in Brownsville, Tennessee. Using Tripp Country Ham for seasoning makes beans and black-eyed peas “mmmmm” delicious!

Carl Perkins grew up in Jackson, Tennessee listening to country music, gospel, and blues, and began to write his own compositions. With his smash 1956 hit classic "Blue Suede Shoes," he virtually defined and established rockabilly music and launched Sun Records into national prominence. Many regard Carl Perkins as one of the founding fathers of rock-and-roll. This is a CD of Carl Perkins’ Sun Records greatest hits, including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Honey Don't,” and “Matchbox.”

It is always the wish of every father for his son to follow in his footsteps, and the first-born of legendary Carl Perkins has done just that. Stan Perkins played drums in Carl Perkins’ band for many years, and now he is carrying on the tradition of his father and carving out a place for himself. Stan Perkins still calls Jackson, Tennessee home, and he personally donated the above 8X10 photos of Carl Perkins and himself, as well as a self-titled CD playing his dad’s best-known songs. Thank you, Stan Perkins!

It was on Beale Street in Memphis where the Blues was born when, in 1909, bandleader W.C. Handy wrote "The Memphis Blues." This W.C. Handy CD has some of his best-known songs performed by jazz greats Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington and vocalists Billie Holiday and Nat King Cole, among others.

In 1954, Elvis began his singing career with the legendary Sun Records label in Memphis. By 1956, he was an international sensation, and the rest, as they say, is history! Here we have two collector’s items from the Elvis Presley era, 45 RPM records on the RCA Victor label, one from his 1963 movie “Fun in Acapulco” and the other from his 1966 movie “Spinout,” and on both records Elvis is backed by The Jordanaires. We are also including a much newer CD of Elvis love songs and a mouse pad depicting Elvis as you want to remember him -- young, handsome, and swiveling those hips!

Nashville's fame as "Music City, U.S.A." grew concurrently with the renown of the Grand Ole Opry radio program, said to be the longest-running radio show in history. This CD has music from Opry greats such as Roy Acuff and Hank Snow, along with newer country artists Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, and Martina McBride, among others.

The nationally acclaimed Loveless Café in Nashville has served up award-winning Southern cooking since 1951. We have here a sampler of three of their scrumptious homemade preserves, Blackberry, Peach, and Strawberry, along with a pretty coffee mug.

A true southern original, the GooGoo Cluster (so named because it is so good that "people will ask for it from birth") was invented by the Standard Candy Company of Nashville in 1912. Not only will you get the original GooGoo clusters, but also GooGoo Supremes!

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc., headquartered not far from Nashville, operates restaurants in 41 states. Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. has graciously donated two certificates for Dinner for Two that can be used at any Cracker Barrel restaurant. Nope, contrary to conspiracy theory, MoonPies didn't fall from the sky! The Chattanooga Bakery in Chattanooga, Tennessee has been making MoonPies since 1917. We'll send you chocolate and vanilla flavored MoonPies, but you have to promise you'll wash ‘em down with an RC Cola!

In 1936 Garnet Carter gave Clark Byers a truck, some paint and a mission: Paint “See Rock City” on every barn he could find along the country roadways leading to Beautiful Rock City Gardens. For decades, these barns have transformed the highways and back roads into roadside guides directing motorists to Chattanooga and up Lookout Mountain to “See Rock City.” This little wooden birdhouse is a quaint reminder of those old painted barns you can still see as you drive across the State of Tennessee.

Also in your basket you will find items sporting the TN Titan's emblem. The Titans have some of the greatest and most loyal football fans anywhere. During half-time as you watch a game on T.V., take a break from waving your pompon and toss the squeaky football for your pup(s)!

Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey has been made in Lynchburg, Tennessee since 1866. No, we can't send you a bottle of Jack, but here’s the next best thing! The Original Tipsy Cake and Tipsy Fudge Cake! To make the award-winning Original Tipsy Cake, they mix pure butter, fresh eggs, new crop pecans and plump raisins, bake 'till golden, and then soak the whole cake in premium Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey. Delicious! The richest possible chocolate makes the Tipsy Fudge Cake about as sublime an eating experience as you could hope to have. It too gets a soaking in Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey once it emerges hot and fresh from the oven! Remember: Eat Responsibly! Don't Eat and Drive!
