Don't Take us for Granite

Daniel Webster once said:
"Men hang out their signs indicative of their respective trades; shoemakers hang out a gigantic shoe; jewelers a monster watch, and the dentist hangs out a gold tooth;
but in the mountains of New Hampshire, God Almighty has hung out a sign to show that there, He makes men."

New Hampshire is a vacationer's paradise whether it's Summer, Fall, Winter or Spring...New Hampshire has it all, mountains to sandy ocean beaches. In the Spring the north country is ablaze with fragrant, wild Lupine... Summer its cool mountain breezes, cold running streams, lakes to boat, trails to hike, mountains to climb, cottages at the beaches, hot dogs and cold ice cream.

The most beloved of all was The Old Man In The Mountain. Up until May 3, 2003 he was there towering above Profile Lake. A natural rock formation which measured 40 feet long by 25 feet wide, the Old Man personified the State's ideal...a strong religious foundation (Puritans came here to escape the persecution in Massachusetts!), a belief that we can do more ourselves so let's keep government out of our business...and so forth.

NH has the largest state Legislature, No State Sales or Income Tax, however, if you're thinking of relocating here, be ready for fat housing prices, exorbitant property taxes and few services that are not on the town hall's ala carte menu! Oh yes, and many towns here still meet once a year for "Town Meeting" where they "discuss" the business of the town for the past year, and attempt to vote on the budget for the next.

I came to New Hampshire as a young bride in 1973, and still am not accepted as a "Yankee". There are two things about New Hampshire that still give me pause, the first is the memory of my first glimpse of the mountain called, Chocorua (3475 ft.) that's with four syllables; and The Old Man...when I first read the saying, I have reproduced above, I remember thinking that this was where I wanted to be forever.

Nicole's Hallmark of Dover, NH has provided a commemorative collection of The NH State Quarter. This uncirculated coin is in a gift box and includes a pewter figurine of the State Flower, the lilac, and a Monarch Butterfly which feasts on the lilacs in early June. Certificate of Authenticity included in gift pack.

Ms Clough a former resident of the former Czech Republic, also donated a lovely collection of Delft Ware. It includes two candle holders, two laser stenciled candles, a small what-not box and two companion ring boxes.

Our NH CPCRN Volunteer's gift to the winner of the New Hampshire square will be two hand knit dish cloths. These are made to color order, from 100% high quality cotton, and will last a lifetime. The winner will be contacted for color selection. Design for final washcloths may vary.

The Lupine Company of Conway, NH donated two 12" to 20" neck size Lupine collars with 4' matching leads. Lupine collars are Guaranteed (even if chewed!) If your Lupine product becomes damaged, return it for a free replacement. Honest! There are two designs, one is called Picnic Basket the other is New Wave, both are gorgeous!

New Hampshire born Judith Silverwood has given us eight of her NH photo cards. There are scenes of the four seasons as we experience them in the State. Judith has already collected several Blue Ribbons in various fairs throughout the State.

1 Pint NH Made Maple Syrup and Mt. Cube Pancake Mix...given by Congressman Jeb Bradley's office...The syrup is from the "Mt. Cube" Farm in Orford, NH. Mt. Cube is famous in the State for being the home of Former Governor Meldrim Thomson, currently run by his son, Peter. Along with this yummy donation is a Christmas Longaberger gift bag, donated by Olga Clough of Congressman Bradley's office and a fellow dog lover.
Last, but not least, a 5"x5"x5" pink granite cobble paperweight. The State is called "The Granite State" and every four years is overrun by political hopefuls who still go door to door campaigning for the honor of running for the Presidency. When all the hoopla is over, and we once again regain normalcy on our airwaves and in our lives, this cobble will remind the winner, that NH will not be taken for Granite, err...granted.
Governor John Lynch, State of New Hampshire provided a Citation to Colonel Potter Rescue Network recognizing the work we do in the state. It is authentic and frameable.
