About Heather Kintner – the artist. Heather
Heather was born in Sayre, Pennsylvania on September 23, 1980 to a single teenage mother. At birth, no one suspected she had a birth defect; she was just a beautiful baby girl. By her first birthday, her mother and grandparents noticed she as yet, wasn’t trying to walk, and that she held her left hand in a fist and wouldn’t use it. She was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy on her first birthday at the DuPont Institute in Wilmington. As luck would have it (if you can call that luck) the disability is contained on the left side of her body. It was a shock to her family, as a short time later, it was learned that Heather would never speak; as the Palsy affected her speech as well. Heather spent the next several years in physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. She was taught sign language. At the age of two, Heather took her first steps. Prior to this time, she “walked” on her knees everywhere she wanted to go (she wore out many pairs of pants!).

Heather’s school years were especially hard on her as she had a learning disability as well and was placed in special education classes. The “normal” kids in school would pick on her relentlessly. Her salvation was her love of art and drawing. She would color after school until it was time to go to bed. Heather loved to make birthday cards and give them to all her friends and family. She loved to see the expression on their faces when they saw her cards and the joy they brought to everyone.

Heather’s mom, Mary Beth, had a love of painting ceramics and introduced Heather to this art in 2001. It was in 2001 that Mary Beth purchased her first kiln. Heather loves to put her art on useful items such as bowls, mugs and plates and share these items with her friends and family.

Heather will turn 30 this year and resides on the family farm with her mom, younger sister, Myra and brother, Elijah. When Heather is not painting, she loves to spend time enjoying her siblings.

Roxy Heather was given a Cairn Terrier puppy in August of 2009. She named her Roxy. This was her very first dog that belonged only to her. She loves this little Cairn, and Roxy adores Heather as well. It is a match made in heaven. In addition to Roxy, Heather helps care for two other dogs, Bullet and Tinker Bell;Painting an Australian Cattle Dog and a Chihuahua; two horses, a cat, tropical fish and a guinea pig.

Heather began painting Cairns on her pottery in early 2010, and wants to make Col. Potter her own personal campaign; to help the little rescued Cairns and to help them find loving homes, like her Roxy.
