Happy New Years Surprise!

January 1, 2004 for CPCRN began with a phone call from a commercial breeder. They had decided that they were no longer going to continue breeding cairns and wanted to "get rid" of 14 dogs. CPCRN immediately rushed to the assistance of these little ones on what was to be the first step of their "Freedom Flight". There is the possibility that two of the little girls may be pregnant and that would mean puppies may be in our future! Since the rescue date is January 1st, all but one have been named for a member of the "first family" of the United States. The exception is named after our intake person who negotiated the release.

Coming from a commercial breeder, these little ones have never experienced normal family life. They have spent all of their lives breeding and come with the dreaded tag of being "puppy mill" dogs. As you may or may not know, a mill dog is usually kept in a cage with four or five other dogs without benefit of protection from the elements. Minimal vet care is provided if at all, and it is usually cheaper for the breeder to destroy the dog rather than take it to the vet. They are completely ignorant of kind words, a gentle hand, regular feeding or a warm safe place to sleep. Their plight is so dramatically different from the dogs most of us know who lie lazily in the afternoon sun waiting for their next meal or walk. These dogs serve one purpose and one purpose only - to make money for the breeder.

Now that these fortunate fourteen are in the loving hands of CPCRN they will receive complete medical care and grooming. Never again will they be exposed to freezing cold nights or blistering hot days in a wire pen. All will go to one of our foster homes to learn what it is to be loved and to love in return. And amazingly enough, due to their huge capacity to love and forgive, these dogs will respond.

CPCRN is actively searching for Guardian Angels and Foster Home Grandparents to help with the immense financial burden that we will incur as we welcome this First Family. We ask that if your heart so compels you that you would click on the links below with the knowledge that each and every dollar will change the lives of these little ones for the better. Soon we will be looking for the perfect forever home for Madison, Bess, Eleanor, Louisa, Lady Bird, Maime, Elizabeth, Julia, Monika, Jackie, Nancy, Grover, Grant and McKinley.
