IS THIS DOG WORTH ONE DOLLAR?
SADLY, NO . . . HE WAS NOT.

This is Baliff – Col. Potter's name for this special little puppy that we had such high hopes for. Baliff was one of four puppies we were able to obtain, and we named the group "The Firm".

Baliff lived for seven days in freedom outside of a puppy mill. Sadly, ALL seven days were spent in veterinary care, and the last few days of his life, he was dying.

In his first few days, however, Baliff experienced many firsts – the first time anyone held him and hugged him and kissed him – the first time he felt love and kindness from a human. Baliff played with his first toys during those seven days; and for the first time he had enough food to eat and cold water to drink. For the first time he had a name, not just a number, he had a new mommy just waiting for her four month old puppy to come home to live with her, and he had a whole organization that celebrated because another one was saved from the horrors of a puppy mill.

Baliff also got something just as important during those seven days – HE GOT PARVO, and it cost him his life. Read the rest of his story here

 

Chardonnay is a sweet, good girl who wants very much to think the best of people. She came in from a bad backyard breeder about 10 days ago. She gets shy every once in a while, but still wants you to pet her and give her your attention.

However, Miss Chardonnay arrived with an inguinal hernia the size of a small lemon! She was unspayed and had filthy teeth, too. Well...the lemon-sized hernia didn't keep the breeder from breeding her, by the way. It's a wonder Miss Chardonnay survived that experience.

We spoke last time of Basil, Reanna and Cadell.

For the girls, we have good news, they have gone to a family together and are enjoying having their OWN family. Cadell is the same loving girl, but Reanna is finding her inner cairn. She is no longer the shrinking flower, but is stealing other dogs food. How she has changed.

Basil is still in foster care. He now sleeps closed in his crate, where before the door was left open so that he had access to his newspapers overnight. He is learning the sit command and while it is very hard for him to be still enough to plant that little rear end, he has managed to do it a few times. He has lost most of the black puppy hairs he came with & is developing a more adult coat. Despite his limitations, Basil is all puppy and keeps his household hopping.

 

One last dog to look at today. Miss Gina came into our program with no coat on her nose from having pushed it through her pen walls, a sad little girl. Gina was rescued from a very bad breeding situation. She was afraid to have anyone look at her; she couldn't go through a doorway; she couldn't understand steps. The intake picture you see is her cowering, because someone is looking at her. Once she got a little more secure, she would follow her foster mom in the yard, but if her foster mom turned her head the slightest bit in Gina's direction, Gina would hit the ground and look away, trying to be invisible. Gina wanted so much to be loved but was so afraid she would be hurt. Gina never had proper nutrition, so her ears will never stand up like a regular cairn. Her coat is very fine, and after she had her first bath, it took hours to cut all the mats out. Gina fell asleep during this process and looked like a little angel, which she is. Two very special angels adopted Gina, knowing that Gina had a lot of emotional problems, but they wanted to bring this wonderful girl back to good health with all they love they knew they could give her. You can tell by the more recent pictures, that Gina is now doing FANTASTIC! Today she is a beautiful happy dog - the way we hope Chardonay will be one day.

Custom Made Bracelet
This prize is a custom designed name bracelet made of sterling silver and swarovski crystals. Your bracelet can be individually sized to fit an infant to adult. Sterling blocks will be either 5.5mm or 4.5mm depending upon size of bracelet and number of letters in the name. This little hand crafted Cairn even wears a Col. Potter rescue ID tag, and comes with a blankie, basket & a CPCRN Adoption Certificate. Hand crocheted from yarn handspun from cairn fur & wool. The fur was donated by Col. Potter Cairn Rescue volunteers and other volunteers did the crafting. This little fellow stands about 6 inches tall and eats almost nothing.

Faberge style Cairn egg
This is a real goose egg approximately 4” high by 2.75” across without the stand. When hung on the stand (included) it is about 8” tall. The background color is a soft ivory with a pearlized glaze on top for a shimmery effect. There is a lovely white porcelain rose with a light pink center on the top of the egg and a tiny peach bow on the side. The Cairn has a green ribbon around its neck with a crystal Swarovksi rhinestone in the center. NOTE: Goose egg has been emptied and cleaned with a solution of bleach and water.

This Desert Rose original decorative afghan is the size of a twin bed on its longer side and gradually cascades to a pointed edge. With a large tassel hanging from its pointed edge. The afghan is done in various shades of navy and has two types of yarn used throughout the afghan. It will be a wonderful compliment to any bed, couch or love seat. The longer portion is wide enough to snuggle under for warmth and napping as it is stretches to over 60 inches wide. The edges are ribbed to prevent it from losing its decorative shape. Switchplate Central
Double light switch, switch plate featuring a Scotty and a Jack Russell. It is made out of a plaster like substance.

This new single switch plate was designed and uniquely painted by artist Jean Fitzgerald after being printed out and affixed to the switch plate. Dimensional (3D) paint and regular paint is used along with black ink outlining for more definition. The dog wears a brass heart charm on the collar. Scottie Combo
Texaco used Scotties for their marketing many years ago. This combo has two items from that campaign. The first is a very nice b&w print approx. 10" x 13". Titled "Listen" featuring two Scottish terriers. Really cute and in very good condition. One creased corner and very light staining. Will look fantastic framed and hanging on your wall!

The second item is a fob from Texaco with the same Dennis Morgan Scotties on it. Very nice condition. About 1 inch diameter, aged silver toned finish.

A Black and White Combo
This combo includes two Black & White Scotch Whisky vintage marketing items. First you get six heavy plastic drink holders with the words "Tonight go to the dogs". 3 in Black and 3 in White. Each is almost 4" X 4" and all are excellent condition. Lucite holder also very nice. Probably 50's-60's era.
Then we included A vintage bottle opener advertising BLACK & WHITE SCOTCH WHISKY. On the base is MADE IN WEST GERMANY .Just push down on the lid and out comes a bottle opener. Condition is excellent no rust. The front label of the two dogs is mint no chipping or peeling. The back label has 2 chips or spots where a tiny bit of white paint is missing. Very minor

Wooden Box with Terrier on Top
This is a great box. Top turns sideways on the dowel which you can see at the end of the box. The box is made of different wood put together and then the pattern cut out. The finish is thick and will protect this piece well. The bottom of the piece is still raw wood, not finished. The box is like the ones at the Fair where award winning artist of all types display there crafts. Great workmanship. The box measures 6 inches long and 4 3/4 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches high. vetting and foster care of Puppy Mill breeding dogs and other Mill surrender dogs.

Col Potter Cairn Rescue Network is an IRS registered 501(c)3 Charity.
Our donation response letter contains information about tax eligibility.

These are the rules:

  • Our Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network's A New Leash On Life III Fundraiser will start on WEDNESDAY, March 16th, 2004 at 9:00 AM EST and will end on SUNDAY, March 27th, 2004 at 9:00 PM EST or sooner, if all 1000 pledge squares have been assigned sooner.
  • For every $15 donation or like quantity thereof [i.e. a donation of $60.00 would entitle a donor to have their name placed in four squares] a pledge square or squares will be assigned to the donor, numbered between 1 and 1000. Pledged squares are assigned sequentially as donations are received. Specific number(s) cannot be requested by the donor. Your pledge square numbers will be e-mailed to you upon processing your donation submission and entry into our A New Leash On Life III database. All donations must be received within 30 days after the close of the fundraiser, otherwise your entry will be voided and any prizes won forfeit.
  • When making your donation, you will be asked to list your top 10 choices in prizes. Once submitted, prize requests cannot be changed. If you are a winner, you will receive the top AVAILABLE prize from your list. CPCRN reserves the right to choose for you if all your prize choices were previously won. In this case, and in the case of the 'Pick For Me' choices, the prize awarder will choose a remaining prize for you. We hope you like it, there will be no changes once the award has been announced. There is no guarantee that the prize you win will be the most valuable. Condo prizes will only be won by those who request them.
  • $15 donation for a pledge square is a suggested donation. You may receive one pledge square per household without donating. Send a request to RaffleDonations@cairnrescue.com. If more than one request is received from the same household only the first request will be honored. Please include all the information requested on the donation form along with your list of 10 choices in the email or we will use 'Pick for Me' as your choice.
  • This fundraiser is open to all individuals over 21 years of age, including CPCRN Board Members, Directors, Group leaders or managers alike with one exception. The person who will run the random selection program to pull 100 unique pledge square numbers will not be allowed to participate in this fundraiser, NOR will they have privy to the database prior to the random number selection which will be time stamped by the program and dated.
  • If all 1000 pledge squares have not been assigned, then the 100 unique numbers will be drawn from only those pledge squares that have been assigned. IF all 1000 squares are assigned, CPCRN will be giving as an appreciation gift one gift per every 10 squares filled. If only 500 squares are assigned, the odds of being gifted becomes one in 5 per square that bears your name. ALL 100 gifts will be given, regardless of the number of squares assigned with individual names.
  • Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network has assigned a non-CPCRN Board member and trusted individual who has been given a "RANDOM SELECTION PROGRAM", which will provide a time stamped and dated list of the programs randomly selected numbers based on the amount of squares with names [i.e. if we have 772 pledges, the Random Selection program will be programed to select 100 lucky gift recipients and give us the list IN SELECTION ORDER from 1 to 772. This individual will have NO knowledge of our donations database or who has been assigned what number(s) or pledge squares, and WILL NOT pledge in this fundraiser.
  • This fundraiser will close and a match with the Random Selection program will be made when EITHER of the following occurs : 1) ALL 1000 squares have been assigned a name OR 2) The closing date and time, as mentioned above has been met. IF by chance, the 1000 square goal has been met, an absolute time frame will be promptly set for BOTH the individual who will run the Random Selection program AND the volunteer who is keeping the database, and an earlier drawing will be announced on Cairn Rescue Mentoring.
  • Once the fundraiser closes, the following will occur: The random selection program, when run, will show the results to the person but also automatically email the results to the following addresses:

    • The individual who will run the Random Selection program
  • The results will be promptly posted on this page and sent to CRM.
  • Winners will be notified of their win, first on this page, then through their email address that was supplied when their donation was made. The email notification should be done within 3 days of closing. Actual prize notification may take longer since it is done in a first win, first pick order.
  • Most items will be mailed out within two weeks after you have been notified of your win. If your item needs to be personalized in any way (embroidered items, size specification, reservations, etc.) you have 30 days after notification of your win to provide any required information, unless otherwise noted in the prize description. If not, the item will be forfeited and donated back to CPCRN.
